Statistical properties of fast radio bursts elucidate their origins: magnetars are favored over gamma-ray bursts

چکیده
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are extremely strong flares lasting several milliseconds, most of which come from unidentified objects at a cosmological distance. They can be apparently repeating or not. In this paper, we analyzed 18 repeaters and 12 non-repeating FRBs observed in the frequency bands 400-800 MHz CHIME. We investigated distributions FRB isotropic-equivalent luminosity, considering K correction. Statistically, luminosity distribution better fitted by Gaussian form than power-law. Based on above results, together with event rate, pulse duration, origin models evaluated constrained such that gamma-ray (GRBs) may excluded for non-repeaters while magnetars neutron stars (NSs) emitting supergiant pulses preferred repeaters. also found necessity small emission beaming solid angle (about 0.1 sr) should considered, and/or association soft (SGRs) lie low probability about 10%. Finally, discussed uncertainty caused estimation distance is inferred simple relation between redshift dispersion measure (DM).

Millisecond Proto-Magnetars & Gamma Ray Bursts
— In the seconds after core collapse and explosion, a thermal neutrinodriven wind emerges from the cooling, deleptonizing newly-born neutron star. If the neutron star has a large-scale magnetar-strength surface magnetic field and millisecond rotation period, then the wind is driven primarily by magneto-centrifugal slinging, and only secondarily by neutrino interactions. The strong magnetic fiel...
متن کاملAsymmetric Supernovae, Pulsars, Magnetars, and Gamma-Ray Bursts
We outline the possible physical processes, associated timescales, and energetics that could lead to the production of pulsars, jets, asymmetric supernovae, and weak γ-ray bursts in routine circumstances and to a 1016 G magnetar and perhaps stronger γ-ray burst in more extreme circumstances in the collapse of the bare core of a massive star. The production of a LeBlanc-Wilson MHD jet could prov...
متن کاملAre Radio Sources and Gamma Ray Bursts Luminal Booms?
The softening of a Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) afterglow bears remarkable similarities to the frequency evolution in a sonic boom. At the front end of the sonic boom cone, the frequency is infinite, much like a GRB. Inside the cone, the frequency rapidly decreases to infrasonic ranges and the sound source appears at two places at the same time, mimicking the double-lobed radio sources. Although a “lu...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Bursts from Radio-Quiet Quasars
We study positional coincidences between gamma-ray bursts in the BATSE 3B catalogue and quasars/AGN taken from the Véron-Cetty & Véron compilation. For most classes of AGN, for BL Lac objects and for radio-loud quasars, we find no excess coincidences above random expectation, and we give upper limits for their burst emission rate. However, surprising evidence is found for a positional correlati...
متن کاملSpectral Properties of Short Gamma-Ray Bursts
The distribution of GRB durations is bimodal, but there is little additional evidence to support the division of GRBs into short and long classes. Based on simple hardness ratios, several studies have shown a tendency for longer GRBs to have softer energy spectra. Using a database of standard model fits to BATSE GRBs, we compare the distributions of spectral parameters for short and long bursts...
